MS. CRYSTAL BARKER: My name is Crystal Barker. I am the Practice Administrator and also the Cosmetic Surgery Coordinator for Dr. Malek and the Center for Cosmetic Surgery. My main responsibility is to reiterate what Dr. Malek tells his patients. We are here to give just the facts, there is no pressure, and we just want them to know who to look for and what types of questions to ask when they are looking into a plastic surgeon.
Educating the patient is very important in today’s world because they could fall into the hands of somebody that is not as qualified as another doctor. There is a few questions that they should always ask when they come to see a plastic surgeon. First of all, are they board certified? Second of all, are they a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons? And thirdly, how much experience do they have? It is most important also is to find out where they do their surgery. A lot of doctors will try to maybe save some money for the patient by doing it in their office under maybe not so optimum atmosphere. You want to make sure your doctor practices and has privileges at all the hospitals in the area. And definitely look for somebody with at least ten years experience. Dr. Malek does have all these qualifications and the years of experience that you are looking for when you select a plastic surgeon. He also has a very nice personality which makes it a pleasure to come to our practice.
